Mentors Briefing

MENTORS BRIEFING: MAY 2023

Beginning of the Hifz Journey

We are very excited to have you on board leading a class of new students on their journey of memorization. Mentors have been the greatest asset of Darul Quran al-Jafari. The joys and success of students becoming huffaz has been the good mentorship and dedication of our dear mentors. We are very honored to have you as part of our team.

Our objective

The aim of Darul Quran al-Ja’fari is to provide support and training in Quranic memorization by instilling the value of constant review for retention. With provision of guidance in Tajweed and Tarteel, we aim to nurture a group of committed memorizers of the Holy Quran who will be able to use verses promptly and be an inspiration to others.

To help with smooth beginning of our students here are some guidelines that we would like to share with you to ensure conformity across all classes. Thank you for the dedication and care that you provide to our students as they begin a new chapter in their relationship with Quran. May Allah (swt) bless you and reward you amply.

  • First class, an introduction class. Get to know your students, find out a little about them, and share your journey of memorization as it is very inspirational to them.

  • Most of the participants are very new to the concept of Memorization. You will have to begin from the ground zero when introducing the steps to memorization. However, we repeatedly have testimonials from students who state that their success has been due to the positive encouragement of their mentors. Thus, as mentors you have great capacity to influence the journey of your students. Constant words of praise and encouragement go a long way in bringing out the potential of your students.

  • Establish housekeeping rules from the beginning as this makes it crucial to set the trend of your expectations and they too are aware of what is expected from them. The following are things that you can put into practice.

    • All students must have their videos on during class.

    • They need to have an Uthmani Quran to begin this journey.

    • You are free to use whatever techniques you are comfortable with to promote memorization in your class. Try to begin your session with a dua and end with a dua.  A general class would have listening to new memorization, a round of review as mubahetha, a short sharing time where you are able to know their challenges, offer tips and generally get to know their journey.

    • Absenteeism policy. If anyone is unable to attend class, they should inform you as a mentor and send a recording of their memorization. If they are going to be away for more than one class, they need to inform you and if they will be away for 3 weeks or more, they need to notify the management too. Based on the guidelines that they receive; any absenteeism of 3 weeks consecutively without a genuine reason would prompt them to be dropped from the program.

    • It is a good idea to have a Whatsapp group with your class to keep everyone in the loop and to be able to pass/and receive messages quickly. If you do not have access to WhatsApp, suggest an alternative that will work with everyone in your class.

    • If you are going to be away for one lesson, pls inform the coordinator early enough to allow a supply to be placed in your class. If you will be away for more than one class, you need to inform the coordinator at least 2 weeks prior to your travel so the supply period and the work can be discussed with the supply mentor.

    • You are not obligated to make up a class if you were absent outside the DQ sessions.

  •  The program of memorization at Darul Quran begins with Juz Amma from Suratun Naas to Suratun Naba. Getting the students to be familiar with the sequence order of the Sura numbers, what comes before and after, what is on the left hand and right hand, last verses are part of the memorization journey.  Once they complete Juz Amma they will be tested before they can proceed to the next Juz. Beginning with Juz 29 we then start from the beginning of the Juz going towards Sura Naba. Thus, for example in Juz 29 they will begin Suratul Mulk and go towards Mursalat and in Juz 28 they will being with Sura Mujadilah and go towards Suratul Tahrim until they reach Juz 26. This is the format of Darul Quran al- Jafari. Students do not have an option of choosing their own route of memorization as this hinders the circle of review within the classroom.

  • The first 3 weeks will be induction weeks where students get to familiarize themselves with the program and routine of memorization. Therefore, their current class could be temporary. However, once the induction weeks are over and they settle into their classes they will continue to with the same mentor for as long as it is necessary.

  • If you find students lacking fluency in their recitation, suggest that they can someone who can listen to their recitation at least one page a day.  You are not obligated to offer this to them but can help them identify ways to strengthen their journey.

  • It is important at the end of the lesson to fill in the progress form. This helps the admin team to monitor progress, helps in filling for you when the need to supply for your class is required and pick up if a student is having difficulties.

If you have any queries, please feel free to reach out to us. We will be more than happy to address to them.
